Neuromuscular disease refers to a variety of conditions, most commonly muscular dystrophies. All of these diseases are characterized by muscle weakness in one form or another. A large number of these conditions require management by neurologists. Pediatric physiatry can offer referrals for care by other specialists and help to coordinate and manage a treatment plan that addresses many of the clinical needs for these children, particularly adaptive equipment and assistive technology needs.
