Gait Abnormality

A problem with walking caused by disease or abnormality in the central nervous system; spinal cord; a vestibular disorder; peripheral nerve disease; degenerative muscle disease; neurodegenerative illness; skeletal diseases; foot conditions.

Gait abnormality typically results from dysfunction of the nervous and/or musculoskeletal system. Pediatric physiatrists and physical therapists provide evaluations and treatment plans for the management of a gait abnormality. Often referrals to an orthopedist are also recommended to evaluate the underlying boney structures.
