Sheldon Stein Named Baltimore Business Journal's Leaders in Health Care and The Daily Record's Most Admired CEO
Mt. Washington Pediatric Hospital's President and CEO is recognized as one of the region's top leaders
Baltimore, MD, October 4, 2022 — Mt. Washington Pediatric Hospital (MWPH), a leader in pediatric care for 100 years, is proud to announce that its President and CEO, Sheldon Stein, has been named to Baltimore Business Journal’s 2022 Leaders in Health Care and The Daily Record’s 2022 Most Admired CEOs lists.
“These awards wouldn’t be possible without the support of the entire Mt. Washington Pediatric Hospital community. I attribute my success to the passionate team of doctors, nurses, clinicians, and support staff that take care of these children. It’s an honor and a privilege to serve the Maryland community alongside our committed staff.”
Stein, who announced his retirement earlier in the year, is the longest-serving leader in the hospital’s 100-year history, having joined MWPH in 1995 and serving as President and CEO for the last 20 years. Prior to his current role, he held positions as Vice President of Patient Care Services and Chief Operating Officer. His leadership has been instrumental in elevating MWPH as a leader in post-acute pediatric care. Most notably in 2006, he played a pivotal role in establishing the historic joint ownership of MWPH with two leading academic medical systems: The University of Maryland Medical System (UMMS) and Johns Hopkins Medicine (JHM).
“Shelly’s inclusion on these honorable lists are a recognition of his commitment to Mt. Washington Pediatric Hospital, as well as its employees, patients, and the greater community,” said Fred Wolf III, immediate past Chair of MWPH’s Board of Trustees. “During his tenure, Shelly supported the investment of more than $50 million in capital improvements and has stayed focused on evolving the hospital to meet the needs of our community, despite the incredible challenges the healthcare industry has faced over the past few years.”
The Baltimore Business Journal’s (BBJ) Leaders in Health Care award recognizes seven categories of local health care professionals and C-suite executives in industries ranging from cannabis to senior care. All of the 11 honorees are making a difference not only in their organizations but in the wider industry and community as a whole. Stein will be profiled in the October 7 edition of the BBJ, which will also be available online at bizjournals.com.
The Most Admired CEOs list honors talented business CEOs, higher education leaders and nonprofit executive directors throughout Maryland whose leadership and vision are admired by those around them. A panel of judges selects these winners based on professional accomplishments, community service and the letters of references submitted by co-workers, board members and community leaders showing the CEOs leadership and vision.
The Baltimore Business Journal Leaders in Health Care winners will be honored at a reception and awards celebration on October 6 and The Daily Record Most Admired CEOs will be honored at the Hilton Baltimore BWI Airport on November 3.
