Torticollis and plagiocephaly are common disorders of head and neck positioning and head shape in which the back or one side of an infant’s head is flattened. These conditions are not uncommon, often resulting from external forces applied to the soft infant skull. If the baby was in a fixed position in the womb, or if they strongly prefer one particular position when lying down or sleeping, the head may become flattened on a certain area of the skull. As well, the neck may be tight or twisted to one side or the other. Clinicians treat the underlying clinical signs and assist families with resources for managing these conditions, and show you simple stretching exercises for your baby that include both passive and active range of motion. We offer specialized clinics for this condition on the 2nd and 4th Mondays of each month.
