The surgical weight management option is offered in collaboration with the Johns Hopkins Center for Bariatric Surgery. The surgical option provides morbidly obese adolescents ages sixteen to young adult the option of surgical management through bariatric surgery.
The surgery is performed at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center and is available for those teens and young adults who meet specific program criteria.

After completion of the required paperwork and lab work, teens will participate in a clinical evaluation with the program medical director and pediatric psychologist at Mt. Washington Pediatric Hospital (MWPH) to determine if the criteria are met.
If the criteria are met, the patient will have ongoing meetings with a registered dietician and member of the psychology team at MWPH leading to an evaluation process at the Johns Hopkins Center for Bariatric Surgery with a bariatric surgeon to determine the appropriateness of the procedure. Your insurance company will likely require pre-authorization and referrals from the child's primary care provider for these services. It is each family's responsibility to understand their own coverage and requirements. We will bill your insurance company for the services and collect copays and deductibles at the time of service.
