See a day in the life of Mt Washington Pediatric Hospital through the eyes of our service dog Yuba.

At Mt. Washington Pediatric Hospital, we offer a wide range of services to make our patients and families more comfortable during their stay with us.

Service Dog

MWPH's service dog comes from a non-profit organization called Canine Companions for Independence®. As a service dog, he has undergone years of training by professional instructors as well as extensive screening of his health and temperament. His handler has been specifically matched with him based on MWPH's patient population and demographics. The dog and the handler have also gone through a two-week training and bonding period facilitated by the Canine Companion trainers.

The service dog has been trained to do such tasks as picking up dropped items, retrieving items, pushing drawers/buttons and pulling open doors. In his role at MWPH, the service dog is given commands by his handler to complete tasks which motivate patients to reach their own goals. Additionally, brushing, playing fetch, walking him and the unconditional love he provides helps to aid patients in their recovery.
