Nursing at Mt. Washington Pediatric Hospital
At Mt. Washington Pediatric Hospital, the children we care for are much more than our patients. They're our mission, our inspiration, our future...our own.
If you share in our passion and commitment to providing the very best in pediatric specialty care nursing, there's no better place to work. As a facility that specializes in transitional care, we spend more time with our patients, and get to know them—and their families. In fact, our average length of patient stay is 30 days. We also have an extremely favorable nurse-to-patient ratio, so you can make the kind of connections with your patients that help produce better outcomes.
It's an atmosphere where you can be your best:
- Favorable nurse-to-patient ratio that allows more time for care giving
- A progressive clinical ladder that provides opportunities for clinical advancement and development of leadership capabilities
- Significant focus on patient and family education
- Support in obtaining your nursing certification
At Mt. Washington Pediatric Hospital, our RNs, LPNs and CNAs have the opportunity to explore a variety of specialty areas in both inpatient and outpatient care. Whether you're a recent graduate, nursing student or experienced professional, you'll enjoy the unparalleled support of management; camaraderie with your co-workers that's second-to-none; and the chance to practice in a multidisciplinary environment that promotes the essence of true patient care.

What to Expect After You Apply
We're a team at Mt. Washington Pediatric Hospital. So, after your initial interview, you'll have the opportunity to attend a "share day" to see how we work together on a daily basis and determine whether or not you would be a good fit for the team. If you are new to pediatrics, it's also your chance to experience exactly what it's like to be a pediatric nurse, so you can decide if you'd like to take advantage of our training opportunities.
After hire, you'll have six days of classroom orientation during which you'll learn from experienced pediatric nurses, as well as members of the interdisciplinary team. You'll take part in individualized, unit-specific orientation, and partner with a preceptor for six to 10 weeks. You'll also have the chance to take part in educational offerings, like our Stepping Stones Program, to enhance your clinical and critical-thinking skills, and facilitate your professional growth.
"The first thing I noticed about Mt. Washington was that the staff—my coworkers—were so helpful. They never made me feel like I was out there by myself. Everybody wants you to succeed. It's a very supportive environment...
I've spoken with a lot of my friends who graduated the same year. They're in bigger hospitals and many are stuck where they are and don't like what they're doing. Our smaller size means there's more I can learn and experience here. The opportunities are endless."
